Slack announces major design changes
Slack has announced a major design change on March 18, 2020. This article will give you an overview of the design changes. The outline of the change is summarized in GIFs, so please see the following GIFs if you want to see it for now.
Overview of the design changes
First of all, here’s an overview of this major design update.
- You can now organize sections in the sidebar.
- New message button appears.
- A new section, Mentions&reaction / People, appears.
- You can customize the sidebar in various ways such as size and coloring
- Essential App is now easily available with built-in
You can now organize sections in the sidebar.
The biggest change this time around is that messages, channels, and apps can now all be grouped into collapsible sections within Slack’s sidebar. This way, if you’re working on a project that has specific channels and group DM conversations, you can consolidate them under one handy section and drag and drop them to any location in the sidebar.
New message button appears.
There is also a new large message compose button in the sidebar. This allows you to send a message from anywhere in Slack, even with a DM you can draft a message directly into your Slack channel. There’s also the neatness of loading into the relevant message history in the draft view before hitting the send button.
New section Mentions&reaction / People
We’ve added a new section in the sidebar called Mentions&reaction and People. Both were previously hidden, but with the latest version, you can now immediately see the pings of your mentions and channels and find the people you want to DM.
Customizing the sidebar
You can customize the width of the sidebar. It’s also possible to adjust the colors in 11 new themes.
Integration of key applications
You can now use shortcuts to quickly navigate the application. By pressing the thunderbolt symbol at the bottom left of the message box, the voting function, such as SIMPLE POLL, can be used in a few clicks.
